Dewa United Esports officially began on February 18, 2021, at the Ballroom JHL Solitaire Hotel in Tangerang, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This activity is conducted both offline using the Ketat Health protocol and virtually. Along with basketball and football, Dewa United oversees three sports divisions, including esports.

Organizational Structure & Leadership

This organization has been led by David Gadun (often called “Om Gadun”) as CEO since its founding. Daylen Efendy, the general manager, and Zaki, the team manager, are also part of the management structure. The team also has analysts and coaches. Lius Andre, who has been the coach since April 2021, and Super Kurt, who joined in March 2025, are two examples.

Talent Search & Innovation

Dewa United Esports scouted for talent in a number of Indonesian cities, including Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung, Solo, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar, Balikpapan, and Palembang. As part of their plan to identify skilled players in the areas, they organized a regional competition called the Battle of Gods.

MPL ID Competitive Achievements & Attendance

Dewa United Esports formally became a new team in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Indonesia (MPL ID) competition during MPL Indonesia Season 12 (2023), bringing the total number of teams competing up from eight to nine. Before this, they were also actively developing their skills through MDL ID’s development phase, where they succeeded in placing second in Season 7.

Roster Dynamics & Updates

Ahead of MPL ID Season 16, there were massive roster changes. Around 80% of the players were replaced, leaving only one or two members from the previous season. This was part of a restructuring strategy aimed at improving performance and achieving greater success in the following season.

Heritage Roots and Sports Diversification

Garibaldi Thohir, the elder brother of State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, founded Dewa United. Garibaldi is a businessman who is heavily involved in the sports industry.

The organization has expanded significantly; in addition to esports, it is active in the basketball branch, having acquired Louvre Surabaya to become Dewa United Surabaya and later Dewa United Banten, and the football division, having acquired Martapura FC and been promoted to Liga 1 in 2022.
